Webmail works but I can't get any emails to work with a mail client

I’ve setup a few domains and emails accounts and they all work fine if I use webmail but as soon as I try to access them via a mail client such as Thunderbird they don’t connect

Thunderbird failed to find the settings for your mail account.

I don’t know where to start looking to fix this


In this case it was determined that the CloudFlare proxy (orange cloud) had been used. CloudFlare does not proxy email ports, at least not without an enterprise plan.
