I had been using cloud.mxroute.com for caldav and carddav sync, which worked fine or a while.
Now the domain does not seem to resolve anymore and when I log into the new (?) nextcloud instance (https://mail.mxlogin.com/?app=nextcloud#!/default/apps/nextcloud/) I do not have my contacts in there anymore?
Is this expected behaviour, or am I doing something wrong?

Yes, the Nextcloud instance provided by MXroute was discontinued several months ago since Nextcloud is offered as a part of Crossbox, which is the ‘new’ Nextcloud instance you speak of.
Unless your account was sold to you by a reseller, you also have the option of the Afterlogic web mail client.
I attempted to email everyone using it with a warning a few months ahead of it, but at this point I don’t know if I failed to reach everyone or if they didn’t all read it. Could be either.
