Underscore In Email Address

I have discovered that attempting to use an underscore (_) in an email address is parsed as a “sub-address”.

Example: customer_service@domain.com is sent to customer@domain.com

It appears this is a recent change, as noted in Email address with dash / hyphen on the username?

I’ve reverted this configuration, the only remaining auto alias character is +.
